The MLB owners are meeting in Orlando this week to discuss a bunch of things to improve baseball, one being instant replay…
The idea is to use instant replay for fair or foul boundary calls and over the wall or off it calls…Basically the boundary calls…I understand technology is taking over our world, but come on baseball…It will spoil the human element of this very human game…
It raises a lot questions especially to the umpires…The umpires may have a negative thought process about any kind of replay that would be reviewed because they may feel threatened! They may feel over time that will lose their jobs…
Also, would they have to put someone in a booth in the press box similar to the NFL…
And will it make the games longer…The pace of the game especially in the American League is already too long…I hope they decide not to move forward with any kind of replay…
The game has succeeded thus far without it, why can’t it continue as is?
If the limited-use plan is passed by the GM’s, the umpires union and players union would have to also approve it…
Overall, I am not in favor of it…I don’t like in the NFL and I surely would not like in baseball…Look what happened Sunday with the Cards and Bucs…A late play clearly showed that a Bucs player who made an interception had stepped out…Well, instant replay didn’t matter because the Cards were out of timeouts…So what good is instant replay if you can’t use it when it really counts…
Thoughts?
